About O.C.M.i.M

My name is Kris de Guzman.  I am a wife, a mom to 2 girls and a mompreneur born and bred in Manila, Philippines. The title of my blog may mislead you to think I am an alpha mom who is the epitome of Desperate Housewife Bree Van de Kamp.  Let me stop you right there.  First of all, I am 20 pounds away from her body (in a bad way).  Second, I cannot cook.  Third, anything I touch in the garden turns to mulch.  As you can see, I am far from perfect.

I admit, though, that I do TEND to be O.C. in some aspects of my life …

… OK, a lot of aspects in my life.

I am not sure when it started though — maybe from my mother, who could be Martha Stewart‘s clone; or the nuns in my school who measured our skirt lengths and the whites of our nails with a ruler; or my pre-mom career, where I managed disinfectant brands for home and personal care; or the birth of my first child in 2007.

Whatever it was, it doesn’t matter (actually, it does as I may need to identify it on the psychiatrist’s couch down the road).  I’m pretty sure all moms have had their own O.C. moments.  With this blog, I hope to chronicle my own O.C. mom experiences, my friends’ O.C. mom habits and hopefully, get stories from our O.C. mom readers out there (if by some miracle this blog gets any readers at all).

If you have any stories, please email me at ocmominmanila@gmail.com.

I like your intro! I enjoy reading the blog. Just found it a couple days ago, Googling “Car booster seat”. It was helpful, but I ended up doing something I did in my 5th month of pregnancy/while on bedrest. I called Richwell, called all the SM malls, Rustan’s, Landmark, etc. Anyway, same obssessive quest as before. Yours was the only one I found about car seats in Manila. I have a blog I started in March, and I have not started on the other one I created, called Manila Older Mother. It’s supposed to focus on the time before conception; infertiliy; subsequent challenges of first-time motherin in an advanced age. Now I feel the title sounds corny, especially since I don’t live in Manila anymore. I am however, getting even older. Anyway, your blog is pushing me to please get started on it. I just feel more pressure now because I like that yours has a focus on OC-ness. Love it when a website is focused. :-) I got the impression that you were from Advertising; learning about your brand mgt for disinfectants is fascinating vis-a-vis the blog. I would choose the birth as main reason for your OC-ness…I was a germ freak before, but this multiplied ten times post-birth, and I am now obssessive about other things baby and home related. Will tell you about/post the stories hopefully soon. Thanks for the car seat post!

Thanks so much for reading the bog and enjoying. :) What part of the world are you in now? :)

I do hope you get cracking on your blog. It’s actually been almost a year for me. And I didn’t notice the time :) I’d love to get to know you more through your blog.

I did come from brand management and now, I have my own small marketing/ advertising agency. Are you in he same industry?

Thanks for the encouragement…I actually was starting to work on the layout for that 2nd blog-the “mom”one this morning, when my toddler woke up and called for me! Story of my (un-)blogging life :-) Oh sorry to sound like I’m far away (though many friends still think it’s far away). I moved to Laguna 2 years ago, that’s what my blog is supposed to be about.

I did have a brief but fun stint in advertising as an AE too many years ago to mention. Before and after, I was really in Education—Early Childhood and Elementary. Stopped working away from home when I had to go on strict bedrest. Now, I’m being an “OC mom” (of your type not the Bree type) until I get something going again.

Yes, story of our lives :) And I did think you moved to another country! Haha. Laguna is great. We are thinking of moving there in a few years too.

Nice to hear about your story. Maybe you can blog about being a Suburban Mom? :) Like me, I want to learn about the lifestyle of a mom in the outskirts of Manila because eventually, people are going to want to move out.

Hi, what is the current contact number of your upholstery guy Narcing? I’m so disappointed with my day bed cover full of “gusot”. Thank you very much!

Was he the one who did it? I haven’t been able to find him again. Last I heard he had a heart attack :(
