Ever since I started working, I’ve been putting on make-up but only the basics — foundation, powder, lipstick and when Body Shop came out with Lip and Cheek Stain, I used that as blush. The most advanced level I got to was to buy a Shu Uemura eyelash curler.
Then, I got invited to the BYS Make-up 101 Session for the SoMoms. BYS means Be Yourself. It’s a popular make-up brand from Australia and the brand team and their PR company set up a function room filled with makeup stations and sample make-up just for us. It was pretty exciting for a beauty idiot like me.
Then came the hard part. We were supposed to follow what our make-up artist taught us. First lesson, no make-up make-up.
The hardest part for me was drawing the perfect eye brow. I’m still a bit lost on this one and am pretty amazed that this is such an art!
And I realized: Wearing make-up is such an OC endeavor — matching lines, shades, using the proportions of your face — there’s even geometry involved!! I love how nerdy it is. Kikay people don’t get enough credit. This is very hard.
I felt pity for our teachers. They had a hard time with us clueless mothers (just speaking for me, Cai and Jenny who kept laughing and questioning alternately). In the end, we seemed to have passed the class with much guided help.
After the BYS session, I have indeed advanced in my make-up knowledge and prowess. I have now added the ff. in my repertoire: Primer (an amazing product which I just discovered through the session), Concealer (for my gigantic eye bags), Eye primer, Eye shadow, Eye liner, Mascara, Bronzer, Lip liner. Soon, you’ll see me wearing liquid eye liner! (hahaha ambitiosa)
I particularly love the BYS minerals naturale bronzer.
My self-improvement task from hereon:
I will wear eye make-up even if takes an additional 15 minutes of my day.
Wearing eye make-up really makes a difference in my look and I feel more confident to face clients. Thank you BYS for your patience and goodies. Thank you Painter’s Wife for patiently being my post-session guru as well.
BYS is probably the nicest make-up line you will find in Watsons. It’s very affordable compared to the luxury brands.
